Bhopal: Yoga Chakra, a 90-day mega-cyclathon, which was flagged off from Kathmandu on February 14, reached Bhopal on Friday. Aiming at spreading message of yoga and world peace in Indian subcontinent, it covered 7 cities before reaching Bhopal.

The initiative has been taken by yoga exponent Bharat Thakur. The cyclathon will travel through two countries, Nepal and India, including 11 states of the country and cover a distance of around 5,000 km, culminating on southern tip of India in Kanyakumari.

"Every city that we cover, hold road shows, talks, demonstrations, workshops and interactions with large gatherings to promote empowering possibilities that yoga has for human being," Thakur said.

"Yoga has greater impact when started before age 40 years and cycling for 22 minutes reduces chances of heart attack by 60%," he said.

At Bhopal, it was flagged off for Hoshangabad and Betul by chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

The cities the cyclathon will cover include Lucknow, Agra, Delhi, Jaipur, Kota, Nagpur, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Mysore, Cochin, Allepey and Kanyakumari.

Talking about yoga being turned into political controversy across India, Thakur said, "Yoga has nothing to do with caste, creed and politics. I am teaching it in Middle East and it involves people from all walks of life."

On cyclathon, Ravi, who is part of three-member team said, "The idea is to spread the message that people should cover small distances by bicycle to reduce carbon dioxide levels."
